You need to be 18+ to have your name changed. So in 2004/2005 people born in the late 80s were granted the privilege to change their names. Comparing the popular baby names in 2004/05 to those in the mid-late 80s finds some massive differences for girls.
The 1980s list of popular baby names is swamped by “common” names like “Jessica”, “Jennifer” and “Amy”. Perhaps these Jessicas, Jennifers and Amies grew up and became green with envy (and gross 80s hair dye) at the lively names now spotting the birth registry in 05/06. Such as…
