Where have all the students gone?

The least fun vacation of all is a StuVac. For the longest time I thought "StuVac" stood for study vacuum.. since there's a gap. Someone precious to me, who had never seen it written, thought it was "Stu Back" because students go back to studying.

Either way it stands for STUDY VACATION which definitely sounds like an oxymoron. You get your first taste of it between graduating high school and the H.S.C.

If you're like me and you're hopeless at studying at home due to all those tempting electronic communication devices around, you'll need to go in to uni. But.. the StuVac atmosphere at Sydney University is strange and unsettling. There are no crowds of laughing arts students or miserable medical students. No one talking about their coffee obsessions or political outrage. Nothing but tumbleweed and Converse footprints leading up to a boarded up coffee-cart. Where have all the students gone? Where are the students in Wentworth?

Where is the steady stream of students walking to Redfern station?

Where are the endless obstacles of clubs and societies you have to hurdle over to get through Eastern Avenue?Where are all the students in this gorgeous weather?
An absolute ghost town. I'll tell you exactly where all the students are...the library.

It's the most condensed group of people in mass silence that i've seen since Casey Donovan at Rooty Hill RSL for a while. Fisher Library is the place to be right now. It's become so popular you really have to wait to sit down to study. I find small fires help get you a good window seat. Otherwise, you'll have to wait - but luckily you have the soothing sounds of many simultaneous i-pod headphones leaking out tss tss noises from all directions.

Having a productive StuVac? Lots of Stu? Add a comment..
