Top 5 Awful Yet Popular Sydney Teen-Fashion

Sydney has a reputation (within Sydney at least) for being a fashionable city. That's right, the clothes come right off the runway and protruding shoulder blades of supermodels, straight into the racks of Sydney retailers. Unfortunately, the Sydney tweens have a tendency to cling to one certain type of clothing item and not let go for a long time. I'll discuss the five most bleargh fashion accessories you MUSTN'T have this season.

5.Sleeveless Hoodies

Ah yes, the Korean sweatshop owner's solution to a fabric shortage. I'm not sure what turns me off the sleeveless hoody so much. It may be because it's impractical for the sake of fashion in such a terrible way. It may be because my strongest memory of someone wearing one is of Anthony Callea on Aus Idol. Either way, I constantly see guys wearing these and it always makes me cringe since it's usually accompanied by an excessively gelled hairstyle and an awkward strut. Girls wear them sometimes but it looks especially more heinous on males. Sorry for the hideous photo, I didn't want to be seen looking at it for too long.

4.Ugg Boots

I'm not sure if Uggs were ever actually in style. Their presence was always bubbling under the surface until they exploded in about 2003. At that point, you couldn't go to your local overpriced corner shop without seeing a pair of these with a tween girl attached. Eventually the fad was overthrown by something or other but there are still a huge amount of Ugg Boot rebels. Sure, they're supposed to be warm and comfortable but it's no secret that the "Ug" stands for.. Revolting. So why are so many people still wearing them? Maybe it's some sort of mass peer-pressure or perhaps it's actually impossible to take them off. Either way, no matter the colour or quality of each pair, they're still Ugg Boots and won't be fashionable again until they're retro.

3.Make-Up Disproportionate to Age

You see it everywhere in the city. These girls with underdeveloped features wearing trowel-loads of make-up. Not much more to say really because excess make-up is a staple on all fashion mistake lists.

2.Von Dutch Trucker Caps

Sydney loves its Von Dutch trucker caps. Anytime you're out in Sydney, it's fun to play "Count the Von Dutch", my record so far has been 23 in a day. Thankfully, less and less people are getting VD lately (no i'm not talking about venereal disease). The fuss is starting to subdue since its peak late last year which arose after celebrities such as Paris Hilton were continuously shot wearing this product. Naturally seeing Paris Hilton with VD hypnotised every single person in Sydney to buy this brand of cap and many still have not awoken from the trance. Tweens often combine the Von Dutch with the Ugg Boots as a spectacular ode to 2004.

1. The iPod

Yes! The #1 most unbearable Sydney fashion is the iPod as a fashion accessory! Though i'm not especially fond of them, as music players they're fine. But every time I see a glimpse of those white headphones leading to a clearly displayed iPod, I can't help but laugh. Some Sydney-siders still find the need to flaunt theirs even though 142% of people own one. It truly seems to be the new boombox over the shoulder. You'll most often see it combined with gradient sunglasses and an aloof expression.
